Dianoetic Code, in your terminal

Open any project folder in a terminal and type dianoetic. It explores your code, shows each edit as a diff before it applies it, runs your tests, and fixes what fails.

Install

You need Node.js 18 or newer. Then run one line:

Windows (PowerShell)

macOS and Linux

curl -fsSL https://dianoetic.tech/install.sh | sh

Or download dianoetic.mjs and run it with node dianoetic.mjs.

Sign in with an API key

Create a key in Dianoetic under Settings → API, then run dianoetic login and paste it. Keys are included with Thinker and Thinker Max.

You approve everything. Each edit shows a diff first, and each command asks before it runs. Answer a to allow edits for the rest of the session.
It stays in your folder. Paths outside the project, and the .git folder, are off limits.
Commands: /changes and /diff to review, /undo to revert the last edit, /model, /effort, /usage, /clear.
One-off tasks: dianoetic "make the tests pass" runs a task and exits. --chat just chats without touching files.

Questions

Is the terminal app free?

The terminal app is free to install. It uses an API key, which comes with Thinker ($5 a month) or Thinker Max.

Does my code leave my computer?

Your files stay on your computer. Only the parts Dianoetic reads during a task are sent to generate the next step.

Can it run dangerous commands?

Every command asks for your approval first, and Dianoetic is told never to run destructive commands like deleting folders or pushing to git.
